De-rek Je-ter, De-rek Je-ter

New York Yankees captain and shortstop Derek Jeter got his 3000th career hit in style, homering the eighth pitch of his third-inning at-bat into the centerfield seats.

Jeter is the 28th major leaguer to hit 3000, and the first to do it in Yankee pinstripes.

At the risk of being abused by all, including my wife, Derek comported himself badly when he refused to support his teammate Alex Rodriguez. Regardless of his personal relationship with A-Rod, he should have stood behind him. That he didn't suggests to me that his carefully controlled image is just that -- an image to be manipulated for gain.

But...he is a bright guy and chose the correct one!

Yeah, fair points, but we're all only human. Cashman head to tell him to cut it out.

In Jeter's defense, A-Rod was arrogant and a flop his first couple of post-seasons in pinstripes. While A-Rod has more God-given talent and salary, Jeter has tons more heart in the clutch. He proves that nearly every season and did again going 5 for 5 including a HR Saturday to get 3000. Interesting take on the bad bromance here: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/how_jeter_put_rod_in_the_yanks_
