Can you hear me now?

To make a cell phone call with Verizon on the Vineyard you need to face south and stand on one leg when the tide is high and the moon is full. If you're lucky you might get a connection. If you're Obama, you get your communications team to rustle up some temporary cell towers so the President can use his Crackberry.

From the Martha's Vineyard Times . . . "West Tisbury building inspector Ernest P. Mendenhall said yesterday that he had also received a visit from Verizon officials last Friday. 'They said you probably know the president's coming here and we have to improve cell phone service, and they presented me a plan to park a couple of Verizon antenna trucks at locations to be determined," Mr. Mendenhall told The Times.

Will Obama's temporary cell tower help the rest of us? There is always an upside...

Yes indeed, for one week. Then we're back to calling on one foot when the mobile cell towers take the first ferry back to the mainland.
